亡命者 シアナ
Siana the Exile is a legendary figure who appears in Tunuk folklore. She is a former Tunuk elder, exiled from her birth clan, who is said to have used witchcraft to attain immortality.
Folklore
All lorekeepers agree that Siana was born into the Nasauligak clan during the Age of Sail. A weaver and a storyteller in her youth, she was eventually inducted into the circle of elders. In her time as an elder, a murder occurred within the clan, which split the Nasauligak with mistrust and division. Siana was falsely accused of the crime and exiled as punishment.
Siana’s long life is the result of a dark bargain. During her exile, she traveled beyond Titan’s Wall and made a blood sacrifice to a spirit in exchange for immortality. In some versions, she was in fact responsible for the murder that led to her exile, and the murder was part of the ritual.
Beyond these basic details of Siana’s life, different tellings diverge. There are a wide variety of stories attributed to her, most of which must be taken with a grain of salt. There is no definitive version of her folk tales, and no lorekeeper is certain where Siana is now — if she even truly exists.
The Nasauligak are historically recorded to have been destroyed in 324 AC and their members assimilated into other clans. In a turn of irony, the figure of Siana outlived the clan she is said to have been exiled from.
In modern times
There have been many alleged sightings of Siana throughout the decades, as well as many who have confessed to impersonating her likeness. While many Tunuk accept that Siana is a real figure, it is impossible to separate the fact from the fiction and tell who, or where, Siana actually is.
The Natjuk clan of southwest Tunuk Nunaat is host to a longstanding “permanent guest,” an extremely old and reclusive woman named Siana who claims to be the legendary figure herself. The official stance of the Natjuk elders is that she is an honored guest on account of her age and experience, and so is invited to observe the council of elders, regardless of whether the stories about her are true or not.
The story of Siana was widely publicized in 493 AC by a journalist visiting Katimavit. This led to Siana featuring in an anonymous poem, Glory the Trailblazers, which cast her as a legendary explorer and an evil witch.
